Tibet – Maschera Mahakala legno e metalli

150,00

Descrizione

Intense Mask depicting Mahakala, the Great Black, the deity that guards the dharma and that corresponds to Shiva for the Hindus. In Tibetan it is called Nagpo Chenpo or Gonpo, ‘Lord Protector’.
Usually painted in black, this deity can also be represented in red. Its constant elements are, however, the five skulls adorning its crown, a metaphor of human pains that are transfigured in the five Dhyani Buddhas.
Carved in old wood, the facial details are made with three different metals: copper, bronze and silver alloy. This is because the union of materials increases both protective and defensive powers.
On the back, part of the Customs wax seal attesting the authentic Tibetan origin.
