Originale Gao, o Ga’u, scatola-amuleto tipica di tutto l’artigianato Buddista Himalayano.
Considerati dei piccoli santuari portatili, sono composti da tre elementi:
– un contenitore in metallo, che può essere oro, argento o altro, dalla forma e dimensioni più diverse, con una piccola finestra sul davanti che permette di vederne il contenuto. Tale scatola è solitamente molto decorata e cesellata con gli otto simboli di buon auspicio Buddisti:
– una parte in tessuto che ricopre e riveste interamente la scatola con una patella sul davanti che ne permette l’apertura
– il contenuto del Gao, che può variare da un’immagine sacra, reliquie, piccole pergamene con mantra, medicine benedette e tutto ciò che possa essere speciale e sacro.
Nello specifico, questo Gao è in lega di argento nella parte superiore ed in rame la scatola vera e propria al centro, una piccola effige di Kharachheri, considerato il Budda o Buddha delle sei sillabe ‘om mani padme um’ molto potente ed efficace e per questo costantemente pregato.

Original Gao, or Ga’u, typical box-amulet of all Buddhist Himalayan crafts considered small portable shrines, are composed of three elements:
– A metal case, which can be of gold, silver or other metal, with the shape and the most different dimensions, with a small window at the front which allows to see inside. These boxes are usually very decorated and engraved with the eight auspicious Buddhist symbols:
– a fabric part that covers entirely the box with a front flap which allows the opening
– the content of Gao can range from a sacred image, relics, small scrolls with mantra, blessed medicines and anything that might be special and sacred.
Specifically, this Gao is made of copper with the front side in silver, and inside has a small effigy of Kharachheri, considered to be the Buddha of the six-syllable ‘om mani padme um’ very powerful and effective and therefore constantly prayed.
